Starboard Lateral Buoy

Ships run aground make up nearly a third of maritime accidents; lateral buoy markers are designed to prevent this by marking the edges of safe shipping channels. Buoys marking the port side have a square or flat top; starboard side markers have conical or triangular tops. Color also differentiates port and starboard buoys, but while most of the world agrees that starboard is green and port is red, in the Americas and Pacific the colors are the other way around.Take care, international sailors!
